AWS Service Quotas
AWS Service Quotas is a service on Amazon Web Services that lets a company centrally view, request, and track increases to the service limits (quotas) applied to its AWS resources. It works alongside AWS Trusted Advisor, which can alert customers when their usage of a resource reaches 80% of its service quota, so teams can request an increase before hitting a hard limit.
Key points
- Centralizes the process of requesting and tracking service-limit (quota) increases for AWS resources, rather than tracking limits manually per service.
- Complements AWS Trusted Advisor, which raises alerts when resource usage reaches 80% of a service quota.
- Gives a single place to view the current quota values applying to an account across services and regions.
- Distinguishes global quotas (account-level, available in every Region) from Region-specific quotas, and tracks the utilization (percentage of a quota currently in use) alongside the default value and any applied quota (an approved increase over the default).
- Service Quotas Automatic Management — monitors quota usage on an ongoing basis and sends notifications before an account runs out of an allocated quota.
- Soft (adjustable) limits — quotas that can be raised by submitting a request through the Service Quotas console or API, or in some cases by opening a support case; hard (non-adjustable) limits — fixed ceilings set by AWS that cannot be increased regardless of request.
