Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is a managed platform for building, deploying, securing, and operating AI agents at scale with a choice of frameworks and foundation models.
AI Practitioner focus
- Runtime/Harness: secure, isolated, serverless environments and managed agent-loop options.
- Memory: persistent context beyond one request/session.
- Gateway: connects APIs, Lambda functions, and MCP servers as governed agent tools.
- Identity: manages inbound/outbound authentication and credentials, including user-delegated access.
- Policy: deterministic boundaries around tool calls and actions; policies can be expressed with Cedar.
- Browser and Code Interpreter: managed tools for web interaction and sandboxed computation.
- Observability and Evaluations: trace, monitor, and assess agent behavior/quality.
- AgentCore works with frameworks such as Strands Agents, LangGraph, CrewAI, or custom code and is not limited to Bedrock-hosted models.
Current boundary
Bedrock Agents was renamed Bedrock Agents Classic and closed to new customers on July 30, 2026. Use AgentCore for new production agent development. Amazon Bedrock supplies models and GenAI capabilities; AgentCore supplies agent production infrastructure and governance.
